Jackdaws Forest School
We had to use our lateral thinking skills to solve problems, picked up an incredible amount of litter and made brilliant clay birds - Take a look at our "Forest School Snaps"in class for even more fantastic photos!
Creative in the Woods
Kingfisher were being creative in the woods making music, art, mud painting and embracing the mud jumping in it!
We had a fantastic time on our residential! We did some excellent activities – some science work with food chains, we followed a “night line” where we had to rely on each other and some good communication skills because we were blindfolded!
We did some campfire cookery, prepping soup, food and bread, and we made shelters in the forest. Excitingly, we went for a Night Walk in Hooke Woods, using our torches and lots of stargazing. We had to be quite brave! On the final day, we did the Low Ropes course – lots of teamwork happening here, and we really gelled across the two schools – and Orienteering. We came back EXHAUSTED.

Science Week Launch Assembly
In Jackdaws, we got a fantastic opportunity to look at bones and bugs, and thought about what Scientists looked like.
Across the whole school, we all had a similar picture in our heads of a scientist – a crazy-haired, spectacle-wearing, evil-genius!
Now we know that we are all scientists!
Wet Weather Play
Pipit class have been enjoying the wet weather and the big puddles that have formed in our playground.
They have explored colour by adding powder paints to puddles and then jumping in them to mix the colours together.
Some children then decided to use their freshly mixed puddle paint to decorate the walls.
Some of the children have really enjoyed digging in the mud with a proper spade.
They added water and made gloopy mud which sucked at their wellies! They took turns with the big spade and worked as a team to add water. Once they were finished they made a welly wash for their boots.
Safer Internet Day
We had a lovely visit from Mr Lewis today. He taught us about using the internet safely, in celebration of ‘Safer Internet Day’. The children have been introduced to the following rules which we will talk about in class regularly. It would be great if parent/carers could support this to help keep your children safe at home. The children explored a site called beinternetaaesome.withgoogle.com and looked at the kind kingdom to support the development of being kind online.
There is lots parts to this site which can support you as parents along with parentzone.org.uk.
The children had an amazing time exploring this site with a very active and excited class. There were some very knowledgeable children who clearly have got appropriate restrictions set already.
Spring Term Topic
What is the Geography like where I live?'
This half terms topic is ‘What is the Geography like where I live?’ as part of this the children were asked to take some photographs or sketch their local geography.
We are now using these as inspiration for an art project, starting with a single line drawing of parts that our eye is naturally drawn to.
Kingfisher Celebration Assembly
Kingfisher Class celebrated their learning about the seasons and poetry by reciting poems by Robert Louis Stevenson, Walter De La Mare and William Blake.
The children arranged the performances themselves. They also had outfits to wear which were a refelction of the season in which their poem was based. As part of our shared learning of the seasons we looked at a painting by David Najar called Seasons Change.
We explored the playground and discovered items that we believed would help us to create 4 sections, one for each season. We will also explore the seasons as they change to continue to embed this learning.
