Science – Investigating Superhero Materials

In science we have been investigating Super-Hero materials so we can create a new cape for Supertato.   First, we wanted to discover which material would keep our potatoes dry.

We then investigated which material would keep him warm by wrapping hot jacket potatoes in foil, bubblewrap, fur, nylon and tissue. After an hour we used a thermometer to test the temperature. The children correctly guessed that the fur would keep him warmest.

Keeping Dry & Warm

Our topic this term is "Do all Superheroes wear capes?"

We have been reading the Supertato books and we are keeping our eyes out for the Evil Pea!

The children really enjoyed creating Supertato characters from real potatoes.

Superhero Plumber Visit

Real Life Superheroes

As part of our learning on real life Superheroes we had James who is a Plumber come to visit.

He explained his job to the children and showed his equipment.

The children were thrilled to explore the pipes and were really engaged in connecting them.

Superhero Nurse Visit

Superheroes who don't wear capes

We have been learning about real life super heroes who don’t wear capes at school.

Charlotte kindly volunteered to visit as she is a nurse.  She brought lots of equipment for us to explore.

The children asked lots of great questions and really enjoyed putting bandages on.

Wet Weather Play

Pipit class have been enjoying the wet weather and the big puddles that have formed in our playground.

They have explored colour by adding powder paints to puddles and then jumping in them to mix the colours together.

Some children then decided to use their freshly mixed puddle paint to decorate the walls.

Some of the children have really enjoyed digging in the mud with a proper spade.

They added water and made gloopy mud which sucked at their wellies! They took turns with the big spade and worked as a team to add water. Once they were finished they made a welly wash for their boots.
