Appearance

Children should look smart when wearing their school uniform. Long, shoulder-length hair should be tied back and off the face, particularly during PE lessons and when using some specialist equipment in science, art, food technology, etc. There should also be no extremes of style (e.g.) marks cut into the hair or the use of different colours. Make-up and nail varnish should not be worn.

Jewellery

Children are not allowed to wear jewellery of any description at school, except for watches, earrings and Medic-Alert bracelets. If your child has pierced ears, plain studs must be worn. For Health and Safety reasons, earrings must be removed or covered with plasters or tape for PE and swimming lessons. The school will not be held responsible for any losses of jewellery. 

If you wish your child to wear jewellery for religious reasons, please speak to the Head of School. No other body jewellery should be worn.

Uniform

During the Summer Term and the first half of the Autumn Term, children may wear ‘summer uniform’. All clothing must be clearly marked with your child's name. All children should wear a suitable coat during wet or cold weather.

At Kilmington Primary School we wear a uniform to feel a sense of belonging to our community. By attending Kilmington Primary School you are agreeing to keep to the uniform policy.

Uniform:

• Royal blue sweatshirts or cardigans with logo
• White tailored style or white polo shirts
• Grey or black trousers or skirts / tailored grey or black shorts in the summer
• Royal blue gingham summer dress
• Socks: white, black or grey
• Black shoes (no trainers) / sandals in the summer (enclosed toe)

PE Kit:

• Royal blue t-shirt
• Black shorts, leggings or tracksuit bottoms
• Trainers (used for indoor & outdoor PE) 

Sweatshirts, Cardigans and PE tops are available to order online or in-store from Thomas Moore, Exeter.

Policy Statement on Code of Dress

Rationale:

When pupils are neatly and appropriately dressed, pride in the School is encouraged.

Purposes:

• To aid corporate identity and sense of community
• To help parents avoid conflict over dress and reduce cost
• To alleviate socio-economic distinctions and extreme gender stereotyping
• To minimise risks to health and safety.

Broad Guidelines:

• It is expected that all pupils will wear the school uniform.
• Suitable footwear should be worn (trainers are not acceptable for normal classroom wear)
• Appropriate clothing must be worn for activities such as PE, Games, Arts & Crafts, swimming, cookery and for other outdoor activities.
• In the interests of safety, dangling earrings and jewellery are not permitted (except watches – provided that owners of the bleeping variety can switch them off promptly when required to do so by a member of staff).
• All school clothing (this includes vests, pants and shoes for the very young) should be clearly marked with the child’s name.  If this is not done, we will put the child’s initials on a suitable label.
