The School Day

Session Times

The hours spent on teaching in the normal school week are as follows:

  • Key Stage One – 22 hours, 55 minutes
  • Key Stage Two – 23 hours, 45 minutes

NB. This does not include acts of collective worship registration periods and break times.

  • School Begins – 9:00 am
  • Morning Break – 10:30 to 10:45am
  • Lunch Break – 12 noon to 1:10pm
  • Afternoon Break – 2:30pm to 2:45pm
  • School Ends – 3:30pm

At the beginning of the day teachers are very busy preparing their lessons for the day and do not usually have time for lengthy discussions with parents.   Any message however can be relayed via the school office.  For a longer discussion, it would be appreciated if an appointment is scheduled with the class teacher.

Before School

We are happy for children to start arriving accompanied by a parent/guardian from 8.50am.   Children should have a parent/guardian with them until a member of staff is on the playground at 8.50am.

First thing in the morning is the time when teachers and teaching assistants are communicating the plans for the day and children are organising themselves for their learning.  If you need to pass information to the class teacher there are message slips in the front office which will be sent around to the class or you can catch the class teacher after school.  Please do not come into the school with your child.

Once the bell has been rung at 8:50am and a member of staff is on duty on the playground, we would like parents to please leave the children to get on with preparing themselves for the day.  Before the bell goes at 9:00am all parents should have left the playground which will allow children to line up properly and start the day in a calm and orderly manner.

One member of staff is on duty each day. The bell is rung at the end of each playtime and all the children line up in their classes.

All lunches (school meals and packed lunches) are eaten in the main school buildings.  Mealtime Assistants are in charge at lunch time, but will refer to the relevant class teacher or Head of School if a problem arises. The children again line up in classes when the bell is rung at 1:10pm. The children then lead directly into their classes.

At End of School Day

PIPITS & KINGFISHERS CLASSES – we ask parents to come to the school playground to collect their children.   They will be released only when a member of staff can see the parent/guardian.

JACKDAWS & OSPREYS CLASSES: At the end of the school day the children go directly out of their classrooms to their parents who are waiting.  Parents do not come in to the cloakroom to collect unless collecting from an after school club.  Alternatively children in Jackdaws and Ospreys classes by prior written arrangement, can walk sensibly through the churchyard to their parents who are waiting in the car park, however the rule is that if they are not collected within ten minutes or everybody else has gone, they come back to school.

We ask that if for any reason, you are going to be late or there is a change of collection arrangements, then please inform the school, either by telephone or completing a ‘Message for School’ form.   Pipits and Kingfisher class can write on the whiteboards by the entrance to each classroom. Under no circumstances are any parents to take children of other parents away from school unless they have permission and have informed the teachers. If children are not collected by 3.40pm then the class teacher will begin phoning the contact numbers.
